About Vendy
Vendy Emberfield is a Swedish romantic-fantasy author whose stories ignite with danger, desire, and impossible choices. Her debut novel, Promised to the Pyre, began as a spark in August 2020 and grew into an immersive series about power, loyalty, and the cost of survival.
Originally from Sweden, Vendy has also lived in Georgia (USA) and Paris (France), experiences that shaped her fascination with culture, language, and the beauty of contrasts. When she isn’t writing, she enjoys practicing martial arts, soaking up sunshine, taking walks by the water, and creating bookish content for fellow readers as @vendysbookshelf and @vendyemberfield. Promised to the Pyre is her debut novel.

Vendy Emberfield is a Swedish-based author of gritty new adult romantic fantasy, writing and publishing in English. She writes for readers who crave romance with teeth—forced proximity, morally flexible heroines, strong female characters with real flaws, sky-high stakes, and worlds that refuse to make things easy.
Her debut novel, Promised to the Pyre, launched in November 2025. She is currently writing and editing Book 2 in the Promised to the Pyre series, set for release in the spring of 2027, while plotting Book 3, with plans to release both books closer together. On the side, she's also working on a division 2 college sports romance (American football) as a passion project.
Beyond the books, Vendy is an active BookTok, Bookstagram, and BookTube creator, posting daily content across her two profiles — @vendyemberfield and @vendysbookshelf. From book humor and quick recommendations to skits and reader inspiration, she's built a community rooted in positivity, inclusion, and a shared love for romance in all its forms. From Paris to the Pyre
Vendy dreamed about becoming both an author from around age twelve, right around the time she first read the Twilight books. Soon after started the dream of becoming an entrepreneur and running her own business, little did she know then that the two dreams would end up going hand in hand.
In 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, Vendy had just moved back to Sweden after a year living in Paris. That summer, scenes started playing out in her mind. Elyn was running from watchers, climbing through a window to an abandoned house, as demon-like creatures were breaking into the house from the other side. As you can tell, characters and conflicts was there from the very start, as the world slowly took shape. For three days she tried to push the story away. It was finally summer in Sweden (something you learn to cherish when you live there), and she didn't want to stay inside and write.
Behind the Pages
Vendy's favorite scenes to write are action scenes. For some reason, when the stakes are high and the heart's beating faster, the words just flow. Maybe it's her martial arts background influencing her, allowing her to design fight choreography that's realistic, easy to follow, and almost cinematic. Another favorite of hers is when her characters take on a life of their own, refusing to follow the plotted path. Nothing feels as real and purely character driven. In these moments, the character carries the story on their back, knowing exactly where they're going, not to mention it's when her fingers dance the fastest over the keyboard. Of course, it can also cause a headache for her, especially when it ruins her carefully plotted path, but it's still a favorite.
She struggles most when writing surroundings and settings. She almost always has to add those in after a scene is already written, layering them in through several rounds of editing. Vendy is someone who gravitates toward people, dialogue, and relationships. In her CliftonStrengths profile, "Relator" is her number two strength (second to "Achiever"), which probably explains why character interactions will always come more naturally than describing a room or a street. Luckily, she has incredible author friends who keep reminding and pushing her to use the settings and surrounings so much more.
As a reader, Vendy is unapologetically romance-first. She struggles with reading anything that lacks a romantic subplot and can read almost any genre as long as it includes romance. She's the kind of person who would read her university statistics textbooks and get annoyed wondering when the characters would kiss (Spoiler: there were no characters, and they never did).
Having grown up in Sweden with roots in Central Europe, lived in Paris and the American South, and backpacked through 30+ countries, Vendy learned early that her perspective is never the only one. She loves to include different cultures and perspectives in her writing, and believes that learning from others and understanding their backgrounds is a gift. Sharing perspectives across cultures and borders is something she carries into both her books and her life.
On the third day she gave herself two hours, just to get the scene out of her system. She wrote it down and felt great, figuring she was done. But on the fourth day, the scenes continued, so she gave herself another two hours. That pattern continued day after day, and seven months later she had a first draft.
There was just one problem; she knew absolutely nothing about how to write a book, she'd just sat down and written. The next five years became a deep dive into the craft: rewriting, editing, studying writing technique, and taking classes. Until 2025, when she founded Veligo Publishing, and in November 2025, Promised to the Pyre finally made it into the world.
